What does cutting-edge cybersecurity technology research look like before it reaches your organization?

Sphynx has participated in 50+ European research projects. Here are some of the ones shaping how cybersecurity is built, taught, and standardized right now.
At Sphynx, R&D is not a side function. It is how we stay ahead. Our technology and tools have been built and refined through participation in more than 50 European and Swiss research projects and we are currently active in initiatives that span threat detection, AI security, cyber training, compliance, and more.
Here is a look at some of the projects we are invested in today, and why they matter for the organizations we work with.
PROTECTING PEOPLE & ORGANIZATIONS
SOC4SME
Intelligent, managed Security Operation Centre Services for Cyber Resilience empowering SMEs
Small and medium-sized enterprises are increasingly exposed to cyber threats. SOC4SME, operating under the aegis of Greece’s National Cyber Security Authority is building high-performance monitoring and response capabilities designed specifically for SMEs. This is cybersecurity at scale, for those who need it most.
iSOCaaS
Intelligent Security Operation Centre Services for Sectorial, National & Cross-border Cyber Resilience
Effective cyber resilience cannot stop at organizational or national boundaries. iSOCaaS is designing and delivering AI-assisted SOC services that integrate shared situational awareness, coordinated incident response, and joint preparedness across sectors and borders. By combining state-of-the-art automation with hands-on training and information exchange, iSOCaaS builds the connective tissue that European cyber resilience depends on.
EUDOROS
Strengthening organisational resilience against cyber threats by providing tailored preparedness support services
EUDOROS focuses on preparedness and cross-border mutual assistance, developing cybersecurity services that can be rapidly deployed when organizations or nations need support. Resilience is not just about defense, it’s about knowing who has your back when something goes wrong.
BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DEFENDERS
EU-INSPIRE
Innovative multi-disciplinary industry-focused cybersecurity education for upskilling and reskilling the EU workforce
The cybersecurity talent gap is one of the most pressing challenges in the field. EU-INSPIRE is directly tackling it by developing industry-driven, multi-disciplinary training programs to upskill and reskill professionals across Europe. This aligns directly with our conviction that people, not just technology, are the strongest security control.
CYBERUNITY
Community for integrating and opening cyber range infrastructures that build an interoperable cross-domain and cross-sector cyber range federation
Training without realism is theory. CYBERUNITY is creating a federated, interoperable network of Cyber Range infrastructures across sectors and borders, meaning organizations can train against real-world, cross-domain attack scenarios. This directly informs how we built and evolve the Sphynx Cyber Range.
SECURING EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
COEVOLUTION
A comprehensive trustworthy framework for connected machine learning and secure interconnected AI solutions
AI is reshaping every dimension of cybersecurity both as a defensive tool and as an attack vector. COEVOLUTION is building the frameworks needed to ensure that connected, collaborative AI systems remain trustworthy, secure, and auditable. As AI becomes embedded in security operations, this research becomes increasingly foundational.
CyberSecDome
An innovative VR-based intrusion detection, incident investigation and response approach for complex digital infrastructures
CyberSecDome uses virtual reality to transform how intrusions are detected, investigated, and responded to bringing spatial, immersive understanding to complex, heterogeneous environments. With a focus on situational awareness, it offers real-time insights into incidents and risks, fostering collaborative responses across stakeholders.
RESCALE
Revolutionised Enhanced Supply Chain Automation with Limited Threats Exposure
Supply chains are among the targetted attack surfaces in modern cybersecurity. RESCALE addresses this directly automating the evaluation of both software and hardware components, ensuring that third-party segments are free from vulnerabilities, and enabling the construction of systems with end-to-end security guarantees. As supply chain attacks grow in frequency and sophistication, this work is becoming essential for any organization that relies on complex technology ecosystems.
XTRUST-6G
Next-generation cybersecurity tools and services for 6G communications, founded on zero-trust security principles
5G is still being deployed, and 6G is already being secured. XTRUST-6G brings together 20 partners from 12 countries to tackle one of the most complex security challenges ahead: protecting next-generation wireless networks that will underpin autonomous vehicles, critical infrastructure, UAVs, and more. The project combines zero-trust architecture, AI-driven threat intelligence, and post-quantum cryptography validating its solutions through five large-scale real-world pilots across Europe.
RAISING THE STANDARDS
CUSTODES
A certification approach for dynamic, agile and reusable assessment for composite systems of ICT products, services, and processes
Certification frameworks need to evolve as fast as the systems they govern. CUSTODES is developing agile, reusable assessment methodologies for ICT products and services directly relevant to organizations navigating NIS2, DORA, and other regulatory requirements. Compliance that works in practice, not just on paper.
These projects are not abstract research exercises. Every insight, every tool, every methodology feeds directly into how we design our services and solutions for clients.
That is what 50+ European research projects really means in practice: a commitment to staying at the frontier.
